Gluten-Free Bisquick

July 28th, 2010

General Mills is giving away their new Gluten-Free Bisquick. The sweepstakes ends in September. Click here to enter.

Have some questions about the new product? General Mills has put together a FAQ page about the new Bisquick.
Find the new product in a store near you.

Gluten-free Bisquick ingredients: rice flour, sugar, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), modified potato starch, salt, xanthan gum. *May contain soy ingredients.

I’m unable to get a hold of the new mix in my area, but here are some other bloggers thoughts about the new product.

I can’t wait to give it a try, but I will need to find out more about the possible soy ingredients first. I need to confirm whether or not I really have a soy allergy. Hopefully I won’t react to this, but I’m glad to see General Mills is giving us some options!

I live in Florida and I found it in my local Publix! I snatched it up as soon as I saw it on the shelf :D I made a batch of waffles the other day and I thought they were the best boxed waffle mix I’ve had! They definitely did gluten free waffles justice! I followed the recipe they have on the box exactly, and the waffles were DIVINE. I found them to be a bit dense, but then again I’m used to the nasty airy, tasteless Van’s waffles. I used to be a big Belgian waffle fan, so I REALLY like these :D There is also a recipe for biscuits on the box using the waffle mix, which I will try next time I buy a box.

I have to watch out for legume ingredients such as peanut (epipen deadly), soya, chickpea, lentils, and on down the line. One of the problems I have going gluten free is that I shouldn’t use a substitute that contains soya, for example, for the wheat, etc. I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for this product — I’m looking forward to the biscuits!

My family is very excited about the position of General Mills on Gluten Free products. We continued to enjoy many of their products YET we have some concerns about the most recent release of Bisquick and the size/volume in the box. It says it makes 11 pancakes, yet for a family of 5, we have to buy 2 boxes to provide 1 sitting for breakfast. I’m sure many of you would agree once you’ve purchased 1 box. I feel this is deceptive and should be revisited!
